What Good Strategy Feels Like

Good strategy is not just a document. It changes how teams choose, sequence, and say no.

Good strategy usually feels quieter than people expect. It reduces the number of open questions. It makes certain tradeoffs obvious. It gives teams permission to stop chasing every attractive option.

That clarity comes from three ingredients:

  • A specific diagnosis of the situation.
  • A small set of choices that concentrate effort.
  • A way to recognize when the situation has changed.

If a strategy cannot help a team decide what to do on a Tuesday afternoon, it may still be useful as narrative, but it is not yet useful as strategy.
